An investigation into a Victorian parliament dining room spat between two Labor MPs could be finalised this week.
Party powerbroker Adem Somyurek and Sports Minister John Eren say they have resolved the "differences" that led to a heated exchange in front of staff and colleagues on Wednesday night.
It's been reported Mr Somyurek threatened Mr Eren with a butter knife - a claim he denies.
"Neither of us are interested in pursuing a complaint against each other in relation to that evening and now consider the matter is closed," their joint statement read.
But an internal parliamentary investigation was launched by Speaker Colin Brooks and President Bruce Atkinson on Thursday.
Mr Atkinson told 3AW radio on Friday he expected a report from officials early this week.
Investigators are trying to determine who instigated the confrontation, which played out in front of staff and other MPs, but any punishment could be limited to an apology to the parliament.
The clash followed text messages, allegedly sent by Mr Somyurek to Mr Eren in making "payback" threats to federal Labor MP Richard Marles over a factional deal Mr Somyurek has been trying to broker.
"I'm going to f--- that Marles," read one of Mr Somyurek's alleged messages, published on Friday in both The Age and Herald Sun.
Former state emergency services minister Jane Garrett said on 3AW it was not a great week for the government.
"I don't reckon that anybody involved or looking at that thought that was a great idea for the re-election of the Labor government, that's pretty clear," she said.
