THE Hawkesbury’s Kodi Stark-Szabo is fast becoming somewhat of a master in the water.
In 2016, then 12-year-old Stark-Szabo went to the National Age Swimming Championships, where he won a number of medals in his age group.
Now, the 14-year-old has qualified for two representative water polo teams.
He just found out he qualified for the NSW water polo team, and was already prepping to go to New Zealand as part of the Combined High Schools water polo team.
He has taken up the sport after seeking something a little bit more exciting in life other than swimming laps.
“I used to swim at a national level but got bored doing the same thing every day so I thought I would give water polo a go,” he said.
It turned out to be a good decision, with Stark-Szabo thoroughly enjoying the much tougher sport of water polo over swimming.
“I’ve been playing for about two-and-a-half years now,’ he said.
“I enjoy the competition and the team spirit. I like that everyone gets along no matter how the game ends.”
He said he was excited about travelling to New Zealand as part of the CHS squad, where along with playing, he would get to also spend some time sight-seeing.
He said his long term goal was to be selected for the Australian water polo team.
