One in 18 Australians will have a personal history of cancer
THE number of Australians living with or beyond cancer is expected to increase by a huge 72 per cent in the next 22 years, according to a Cancer Council report.
This would mean 1.9 million Australians would be living with a personal history of cancer by 2040 – an increase from one in 22 people today, to one in 18.
Experts say this is due to the country’s growing and ageing population, as well as increasing cancer survival rates due to better prevention and early detection.
