Windsor Seafood’s much-loved blue and yellow Macaw parrot, “Snappa”, is missing after having taken flight around 6:30pm last night.
The well known Hawkesbury icon was lounging with owner, Barry Lane, yesterday afternoon when he tried to sit on Mr Lane’s car which he had not realised would be slippery.
Mr Lane said that Snappa then became spooked and took flight in a northerly direction from Freeman’s Reach and has not been seen since.
Mr Lane said it was a rarity for this friendly bird who “often spends Sunday’s sitting with me on the table eating ice cream”.
Mr Lane and wife Susan have owned Snappa since he was just eight months old and on Christmas Day celebrated the parrot’s 17th birthday, making him not only the celebrity face of their business, Windsor Seafood, but very much a member of their family.
Last night, Susan Lane took to Facebook asking for friends and friends of friends to get the word out there about missing Snappa and have had an overwhelming response, with their post shared over 4,500 times at time of writing.
Today they are asking for your help to bring their talking Macaw parrot home, offering a reward for whoever finds him but recommending that you call them directly if you see him rather than attempt to pick him up, as “he is unlikely to let anyone but me touch him and anyone wanting to would need gloves” Mr Lane said.
If you have any information on Snappa’s whereabouts or have seen him please contact Susan Lane on 0419 220 980, Barry Lane on 0419 229 822 or call Windsor Seafood on (02) 4577 2155.
