The home ground advantage wasn’t enough for the Hawkesbury first grade premier side, going down to Gordon at Owen Earle Oval on Saturday.
Firsts fought hard, but weren’t able to get enough runs on the board to compete against a strong Gordon outfit.
Impressive spin bowling from Gordon put a halt to Hawkesbury’s batting, wrapping them up for 186.
Despite a strong four wicket haul form Hawks Usman Qadir, it wasn’t enough to stop Gordon who finished for 7/191.
Second grade continued their impressive season with another win over Gordon at Chatswood, albeit and nail biting finish.
Currently sitting second on the ladder, the second grade outfit came out strong for what was a very high scoring match.
Kerrod Gordon put on a most impressive run haul of 145 not out, before Hawkesbury declared for five for 394.
Sitting in a comfortable position, Hawkesbury were pressured to the very end by an impressive Gordon Batting innings, running it down to the wire to get them all out for a painfully close 378.
Another highlight of the day was the opening partnership in third grade competition between Eknoor Singh and Cameron Kwok with Singh going on to get 100 not out.
Second and fourth grades now face Mosman for a one-day competition at home, at Owen Earle Oval, while first and thirds play Mosman away.
Hawkesbury Cricket Club president Richard Timbs said while first grade aren’t going as well as they had hoped, overall the club is sitting an a good position.
“First grade didn’t get the start they were hoping for at the beginning of the season, facing some pretty strong sides,” Timbs said.
“Overall in the Club Championships however were are in a good positions, sitting seventh overall out for 20.
“We were aiming for a top ten finish, and we are already sitting well inside that.”
