Hawkesbury Local Area Command is urging members of the community to plan ahead to ensure a safe celebration this Australia Day, Friday January 26.
Operation Australia, a high-visibility policing operation, will see general duties officers from multiple commands, assisted by specialist police, ensuring a safe and secure environment for attendees.
Hawkesbury Local Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Peter Jenkins said additional police will be deployed to ensure everyone can celebrate safely.
“If you plan to attend an event near you, check the conditions of entry and remember that glass is prohibited in some areas,” Acting Superintendent Jenkins said.
“Officers will be conducting patrols on our streets and our roads, so have a ‘Plan B’ and don’t drink and drive.”
“This day isn’t just a public holiday – it’s a day to celebrate everything that’s great about living in this nation. Don’t let this turn into a memorable day for the wrong reasons,” Acting Superintendent Jenkins said.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb, said police weren’t here to ruin your fun; however, we they were not going to tolerate behaviour that risks the safety of others.
Officers will be focussing on anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related crime so if you plan to drink, do so in moderation and know your limits.
Marine Area Command officers will be out in force and remind members of the public that drinking alcohol or taking drugs while on the water don’t mix and can end tragically.
