THE hot weather is here to stay in the Hawkesbury for at least another week, and a weather record has been broken thanks to a slew of hots days so far this year.
Richmond has had the hottest start to the year since 1993, when weather observations started to be recorded at the Richmond RAAF Base according to Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain.
“The Richmond RAAF site (opened in 1993) has had its hottest start to the year in terms of the maximum temperature – currently at 34.5 degrees,” Mr Brittain told the Gazette.
“The average maximum temperature for Richmond is 30.1 degrees.”
So far this month, we’ve seen four days where the temperature has exceeded 40 degrees in Richmond, while there have been 11 days where the temperature has exceeded 35 degrees (including those above 40 degrees).
Tuesday is forecast to reach 38 by the Bureau of Meteorology, followed by, at this stage predictions of 37, 36, 37, 35, 35, 34 on Monday.
“The mercury in Richmond/Sydney's west are expected to remain constantly above average until at least the early part of next week, peaking in the mid-to-high each afternoon,” Mr Brittain said.
“Overnight temperatures will become increasingly uncomfortable (not dropping below the 20 degree mark for the remainder of this week), due to high humidity and more cloud cover than of late.”
