Overnight lightning strikes have been blamed for much needed track work issues, which are affecting several train lines, including the T1 Western Line.
Buses will replace “most” trains between Blacktown and Richmond today.
Sydney Trains has the below statement on its website:
“Due to staff availability and earlier incidents at Gordon, Sefton, Penrith and Yagoona, trains are running at reduced frequency. Allow plenty of extra travel time, listen to announcements and check indicator boards as stopping patterns may change. Buses are replacing most trains between Blacktown and Richmond as well as between Penrith and Emu Plains.”
On Twitter, Sydney Trains has blamed a lack of staff for reduced trains.
A Sydney Trains spokesperson gave this comment to the Gazette.
“Sydney Trains would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by delays on our network today,” they said.
“Delays were caused by lightning strikes at Gordon, Penrith and Sefton, track circuit failure at Yagoona and staff availability. During the afternoon peak, trains will operate but stopping patterns may change.
“Buses continue to replace trains on the T7 Olympic Park Line between Lidcombe and Olympic Park. To assist with timetable recovery buses are supplementing services between Blacktown and Richmond, Emu Plains and Penrith on the T1 Western Line, Campbelltown and Macarthur on the T2 Airport & South Line and on the T6 Carlingford Line between Clyde and Carlingford. Customers are advised to allow extra time, listen to announcements and check indicator boards before boarding a train. “
