SUSAN Templeman has confirmed she is an Australian citizen and has allegiance to no other nation as the citizenship crisis claims another victim in Tasmania’s Jacqui Lambie.
There was never any question about Ms Templeman’s citizenship status, however, given how many MPs have been ignorant of their own citizenship, the question was asked.
The Member for Macquarie told The Gazette there was no question about her citizenship status.
Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie will quit politics, after learning she was a dual citizen of the United Kingdom, thanks to her father being born in Scotland.
Lambie was the eighth MP forced out of Parliament, because she was ineligible to be a member thanks to section 44(i) of the Australian Constitution.
The section outlines that anyone who has an allegiance or is subject to a foreign power cannot be a Member of Parliament.
The citizenship fiasco has already seen former deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce ousted from office, although he will now contest a by-election now that he has officially renounced his New Zealand citizenship.
Joyce’s fellow Nationals MP Fiona Nash was also booted from Parliament, as was One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts.
Liberal MPs John Alexander and Stephen Parry have also resigned.
Greens MP Scott Ludlam resigned, as did fellow Green Larissa Waters, whose Canadian citizenship was the catalyst for this entire crisis.
