A premium blend of Vegemite has landed on supermarket shelves – for a limited time only.
The new spread – Vegemite Blend 17 – has a premium price attached, too. At $6.99 for 150g it is substantially more expensive than the $3 original.
The new spread is a “limited edition” with just 450,000 available.
“Blend 17 takes some of these earlier recipes to bring this richer, bolder taste and the naming is simply in recognition of the year we have been able to bring this to Australians,” a spokesman said.
The recipe remains unchanged, but rather the blending process has changed the taste sensation, insiders say.
Unsurprisingly, reaction on social media platforms has been mixed.
“Made from the dregs of the dregs” said one Facebook post.
Another said: “Two words.... Coke Zero When will they learn DO NOT MESS WITH SUCCESS!”
But then there was this: “yasssss 😍 😍 😍”
