The Pitt Town Bypass project has taken a giant leap towards becoming “shovel ready”, following a $3 million State Government investment announced in the budget today.
Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet said key infrastructure projects to be funded in the Budget continued to deliver on commitments to the people of the region. One of these being the Pitt Town Bypass
“Our roads investment includes $3 million for the long-awaited Pitt Town Bypass to get the project shovel ready,” Mr Perrottet said.
“This will enable us to progress a project which has been under consideration for more than 60 years and reduce heavy vehicles in the town centre so local streets can be returned to the community.
“It follows the preferred option for the bypass in March this year after extensive community consultation.”
President of the Pitt Town Progress Association, Peter Ryan, said the funding announcement was a significant step forward in the planning process for the Pitt Town Bypass.
“We have been working for many years, and with Mr Perrottet more recently, to see this critical piece of infrastructure is delivered to the people of Pitt Town,” Mr Ryan said
“We are grateful to Dominic Perrottet and his staff for all of their work in getting the proposal to this point.”
Mr Ryan said trucks were currently hauling 20 per cent of Sydney’s construction sand requirements from the quarry in Maroota through Pitt Town.
He said that with all of the development occurring in Sydney’s west and south west, it was an “intelligent” infrastructure decision to have these trucks bypass Pitt Town.
“Currently in Pitt Town we have a growing population, more kids in schools. To have this traffic bypass our town it makes Pitt Town a safer and more desirable place to live.”
