OVER 100 Year 6 students from 25 Hawkesbury schools gathered at Yarramundi’s Lutanda campsite to hone their leadership skills.
The 104 pupils were joined by staff members on the two-day combined Hawkesbury Schools Leadership Camp - an annual event designed to help students develop their leadership and public speaking abilities, while providing opportunities for attendees to work as a team and encourage their peers.
The students involved in the camp were those who have been elected as captains, vice-captains and prefects of their respective schools.
Principal of Freemans Reach Public School and camp organiser, Cheryl Walker, said this year, for the first time, local high schools got involved in the event.
“Our four high schools combined their resources and efforts to coordinate our evening program with some mind-stretching activities,” she said.
“Each high school also sent along staff and they were able to promote their school and share with Year 6 what high school would be like for them next year.
“This camp is a major event on the calendar for all Hawkesbury principals and it is well treasured by all who attend.”
Staff from Brewongle Environmental Education Centre ran a leadership activity during the camp, and students were encouraged to follow this up by participating in a leadership awards program during the year.
