AFTER a winless start to the season, the Sydney Thunder can make it four wins in a row against the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday night, and potentially squeeze their way into the Big Bash finals.
The men will need a bit of luck, with other results needing to go their way as well, but they are in with a chance to defend their title from last season.
The Thunder shot back into Big Bash contention after dispatching their rivals, the Sydney Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday night.
In what was a double header with the Women’s Big Bash League as well, the Thunder had an eight wicket win over the Sixers.
Thunder spinner Fawad Ahmed was man of the match, after he took four wickets and helped dismantle the Sixers’ batting line-up, restircting them to 9-99 after 20 overs.
West indian import Carlos Braithwaite took three wickets, but it was Ahmed who was the star of the show, as not only was he dangerous but also economical, going for just 14 runs from his four overs.
Hawkesbury Cricket Club’s Arjun Nair was in the team as well, and bowled one over during the match, going for seven runs.
The paltry total posted by the Sixers meant Nair did not have a chance to pad up and head into the middle.
The Thunder made quick work of the run chase, reaching 2-100 in 10 overs.
Opener Kurtis Patterson top scored, reaching 38 not out from 26 balls, including five boundaries.
Englishman James Vince made 28 off 18, including a six and three boundaries, while Ben Rohrer -26 off 13 - was in the middle with Patterson, hitting the winning runs with a boundary.
