Despite rain on the last day of racing, the Windsor Spectacular powerboating competition still managed to drag thousands of spectators to the banks of the Hawkesbury River.
Chris Stone from the Upper Hawkesbury Motor Boat Club said the two-day event last weekend was jam packed full of great racing, with 80 boats entering the competition this year from all over Australia.
“It was an excellent weekend of racing despite being rained out early on the Sunday,” Stone said.
“It was a very close weekend of racing which was brilliant to watch.”
Penrith racer Dean Barry proved most successful on the river in his boat ‘She’s the Culprit’, taking out most of the major events including the Unlimited Displacement Class (Bad Boats).
Stone said the Trojan Cup six litre class was exciting racing with many of the interstate competitors vying for the title.
“All of the sponsors were on site for the weekend of racing as well and all did really well with the races able to draw a crowd of around 3,500 on Saturday and just over 4,000 on Sunday before the rain set in,” Stone said.
“The car show on Sunday also proved popular as did the displays by the drag cars on Saturday, which really added to the atmosphere.”
The Windsor Spectacular continues to grow in strength each year with boats enter the racing from as far as South Australia, far north Queensland and Victoria.
