She’s a volunteer fire fighter with a huge passion for her community, now Evonne Lester wants to be the 2017 Hawkesbury Showgirl.
Miss Lester, 20, has a diploma in policing and is now studying a Bachelor of Laws through Charles Sturt University with hopes to become a Police Prosecutor.
She is a volunteer in the NSW Rural Fire Service, and a member of her local Londonderry Brigade.
Miss Lester said she entered Hawkesbury Showgirl to help make an impact on her community.
“I wanted to show others that it doesn't matter where you come from, what matters is the impact you make on others and the changes that you make yourself,” Miss Lester said.
“If I was to win I would use the platform to help remove the stereotype placed on the Hawkesbury by some.
“I would also use it to represent the strong individuals developing in the Hawkesbury who are struggling to reach their goals, and advocate for those in the Hawkesbury who are there to help and make a difference in the community.”
Miss Lester believes she brings knowledge of issues that affect the Hawkesbury to the Showgirl competition, and experience of working and living within the Hawkesbury.
“I bring a strong community orientated mind where I believe we can only better something by working together.
“I also bring a different view of life, I believe that the best approach to life is helping others when they are in a time of need- a helping hand never goes astray.”
