Two young gymnasts have received the backing of their local Council as they prepare to compete at the Australian Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne this year.
Holly Kerslake from Schofields and Maisy McGregor from Riverstone have both received funding from Blacktown City Council to help fund their national championship bid along with 25 other rising sport athletes in the local electorate.
Council coughed up $8000 in total to support its rising athletes with Mayor Stephen Bali saying they jumped at the chance when presented with the opportunity to support Blacktown’s local sportspeople.
“Blacktown is the sporting capital of Western Sydney,” Cr Bali said.
“We know for a fact that there are a large number of fantastic sportspeople in Blacktown City, and we take great pleasure in helping members of our local community excel in their sporting endeavours.”
Mayor Bali says Council was dedicated to supporting and producing champions in every sport.
“We are extremely proud that a number of our local sportspeople have been called up to compete at the elite level.”
