WINDSOR junior Lachlan Coote has re-signed with the North Queensland Cowboys, despite significant interest from other clubs.
The Cowboys announced Coote had signed a two-year contract extension, which means he will stay with the Cowboys until the end of the 2018 season.
Earlier this year, Coote told the Hawkesbury Gazette his preference was to remain with the Cowboys.
In comments released by the Cowboys, Coote said he was very pleased to stay with the club, where he won a premiership last season.
“I’ve had a memorable time here so far; we won the premiership last year; and I just love playing with these boys,” Coote said.
“Greeny (head coach Paul Green) and the coaching staff have played a big role in helping me improve my game, and they were all tremendous after a tough first year at the club.”
Coote was an integral part of the Cowboys’ dominance last year, and has continued this season in fine form.
His all around good form has even seen some people mention him as a possible fullback candidate for the NSW team.
Head coach Paul Green said Coote had been great for the club since his move from Penrith.
“He’s been really good for us, both last season and to start 2016,” Green said.
“His positional play at fullback is second-to-none and he gives us a genuine attacking option alongside our halves. I know his teammates love playing beside him and he’s a pleasure to coach.”
