SAVE on tip fees and dump your broken or outdated electrical equipment at the Hawkesbury Showground for free during Council’s e-waste recycling weekend.
Organisers will accept drop-offs of everyday household e-waste from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8.
Computers, monitors, notebooks, printers, fax machines, scanners, CD drives, hard drives, TVs, VCR players, DVD players, projectors, networking equipment, cables, keyboards, mice, floppy discs, printer cartridges, electronic games/toys, stereos, cameras, video cameras, iPods and MP3 players will all be accepted for recycling.
Items that will not be accepted for recycling are: microwaves, whitegoods, small appliances, vacuum cleaners, power tools and non-computer batteries.
Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Kim Ford, said: “This is an important move towards achieving a sustainable future as there are many materials that can be recovered from these products. Recycling e-waste can also prevent hazardous materials from damaging the environment.”
The event is part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, which aims to lift television and computer recycling from its current low rate of only around 20 per cent, up to 80 per cent by 2021.
Almost 25 tonnes of e-waste was collected at last year’s e-waste recycling event.
Council advises it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure all data is erased from their devices before being handed over for recycling.
