KURRAJONG Road resident Tracey Hawkins said not only is the 52-lot proposal for a subdivision in her street in Kurrajong Village inappropriate, it’s in contravention of the original purpose given to the block.
Ms Hawkins said the eight-acre block was originally part of explorer William Lawson’s 500-acre grant at Kurrajong.
“It was passed down through his family until his great-grandson sold much of the land to the Lamrock family,” she said.
“They sold it onto Mr Malcolm, who in 1927 created ‘Malcolm’s Woodburn Estate’. As part of that subdivision, the block was bought by the State Government for future use as a park or a village hall.”
She said the advertisement for the subdivision in newspapers of the time backed up the oral history from locals who maintain that the site was always intended for use by the community.
Ms Hawkins has created a site with information about the former Crown land block called savekurrajongwoodlands.wordpress.com and a Facebook page Save the Kurrajong Forest.
