Blacktown City Council’s outdoor staff resolved to stop work at 12.30pm yesterday which Council said would impact on garbage pick up in the Blacktown area.
The industrial action follows the dismissal of a staff member at the Council Depot.
Council reassures the City’s residents it is doing all within its power to promptly resolve the issue.
The dispute will be heard in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) at 9.30am this morning, where council will be seeking a return to work order.
In the meantime, residents are asked to place bins out for collection as per normal.
Alternatively, residents can take domestic waste bins to waste collection stations at Seven Hills or Eastern Creek, free of charge.
They are reminded to show proof of residency.
Blacktown City Council will be stating in the IRC that it followed proper protocols and procedures in relation to the contested dismissal.
"As the matter is now subject to legal dispute, it would not be proper to ventilate the matter further outside the courtroom," a spokesperson said.
