COUNCIL has got serious about reducing our waste to landfill by launching what it calls its Compost Revolution.
The program offers Hawkesbury residents compost bin or worm farm kits at 70 per cent off recommended retail price.
Not only will it reduce the amount of organic waste going to landfill but will enrich the gardens of those using them.
Currently, a third of Hawkesbury garbage is food waste.
Hawkesbury mayor Kim Ford said “composting and worm farming quickly break down organic matter into a rich soil fertiliser, perfect for growing your own veggies and fruit’’.
Not only will composting improve your garden and reduce waste to landfill, it will also stop so much methane being created by our landfill dumps.
This methane is a 20-times-more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
Eric Brocken, compost expert from Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre will be on hand at the launch to provide advice on composting.
The Launch of the Compost revolution will coincide with the official opening of the Bligh Park Community Garden.
To order your compost bin at the bargain price you have to complete a quick online tutorial and quiz.
A compost kit and delivery will cost $29.90 and a worm farm plus worms plus delivery will cost $44.90.
