The condition of a man who was critically injured in what police describe a ‘misadventure’ incident has improved.
Josh Taylor, 19, is still on life support but appears to be improving slowly at Westmead Hospital after he shot himself in the head earlier this month.
Hawkesbury detectives believe the Acacia Gardens resident shot himself in the head while in the car with two of his friends at a car park in Pitt Town on Friday, May 15.
Police and paramedics were called to the car park outside the IGA supermarket on Eldon Street where Mr Taylor was in a critical condition and was left with extensive swelling to his brain.
His motivation is still unknown.
Police believe specialists are looking after him to try and slowly reduce his medication.
Hawkesbury crime manager detective inspector Paul McHugh said it’s a slow progress but it appears an improvement in his condition has occurred.
He said it is being treated as a misadventure and police hope to speak to him if his condition improves.
Mr Taylor’s family told the Gazette he is ‘‘sort of grabbing our hands now’’.
They also added ‘‘he doesn’t deserve this.’’
His sister and mother have been by his side at the Intensive Care Unit at Westmead since the incident happened.
