Entries close next Monday, June 1 for this year’s Hawkesbury City Eisteddfod so get in quick.
The 2015 Eisteddfod runs from July 19 to September 5 at Windsor Function Centre.
Competition covers piano, vocal and instrumental abilities, dance, speech, drama and public speaking. Performers can be aged from five years.
The Hawkesbury City Eisteddfod began in the Richmond School of Arts many years ago and is a fixed event in the performing arts.
The Eisteddfod now includes a section for performers with special needs in most areas of its syllabus, creating a fairer competition.
‘‘Children with physical or learning disabilities can compete with each other,’’ Hawkesbury Eisteddfod teacher Kaylie Henry said.
‘‘It’s not fair to expect them to perform against other kids.’’
She said organisers decided on this after a girl pianist who was legally blind entered their competition last year.
‘‘We realised she needed some separate category to perform in,’’ she said.
The Eisteddfod seeks to raise entrants’ ability through public performances and gaining experience in all parts of the program.
‘‘It is by far the biggest annual cultural event held in the Hawkesbury each year,’’ Ms Henry said.
‘‘In previous years there have been 5000 performers on stage, with 3500 people coming to watch.
‘‘Ninety-four school groups enter in the instrumental ensembles, dance groups, choral and verse speaking choirs, involving about 1500-2000 school children.’’
