A dating show with participants wearing bags on their heads, a series devoted to extreme accidents and medical procedures and a reality show about women who would rather be dolls.
These are just some of the wackier television shows that have been given the go-ahead or waved through for a second season in the recent industry showcase known as the "upfronts".
The network that has become home to many of the wilder imaginings of desperate TV execs is US cable channel Myx TV.
Myx has ordered a second series of Bagged, which claims to make dating less superficial by covering the faces of potential suitors with a brightly coloured hood.
The big reveal occurs when the hoods come off. Will it be Mr Right or Mr Elephant Man?
Meanwhile, a new show from the UK's Really TV asks that question so often on the tip of our tongues: "Is That a Nail in Your Head...?"
Is That a Nail in Your Head ...? is touted as "a compilation of the unbelievable images of medicine at work around the world, from a human ear grown on a mouse's back, to a man whose face was mauled off by a bear".
In the first episode a woman recounts how she managed to impale herself on a microphone stand.
Just to seal the deal, many of the stories "include the actual video of medical procedures as they happen".
Back with Myx, The Doll Life, which will premiere on October 20, is a spin-off of a show called I'm Asian-American And .... It will delve into the odd and at times downright creepy world of a company called Dolldelight, which caters to people who want to be living dolls.
US network The CW has renewed a drama series called iZombie, a heart-warming tale about a woman who solves murders by eating the brains of the victims to find out what happened to them.
The CW has also commissioned a reality series called Wicked Offer. Scant details are available, but the premise is to see how far couples will go when asked to do various acts in exchange for money. No one has yet suggested a mash-up of the two series involving cash inducements for brain-eating, but surely it can only be a matter of time.
And rounding out some of the stranger upfront offerings is another Myx production called The Alternative.
Variety reports that it features a "spiritual host who offers insight on common health conditions and ways to combat them using Eastern medicine and common household items".
You really couldn't make that one up.
