Only 12-years-old, Windsor resident Cassidy Strickland has achieved more than many will in a lifetime, and now her volunteer work has been recognised by our local phone book.
Yellow Pages spokesperson Belinda Di Pietro said this year’s cover theme, ‘Australian Stars Rising Above’ recognised young Australians who volunteered their time for projects that help their community.
“This year we have discovered young change makers across Australia who are stepping up to make a difference in their community,’’ Miss Di Pietro said.
‘‘We wanted to honour these rising stars and elevate them to a place where everyone can celebrate them.’’
Cassidy has been helping feed homeless people around Windsor with her mother Linda since 2011.
The pair operate under the name Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands.
She has since started her own small group called Kidz Who Care, which calls on young residents to take part in projects and fundraising activities in support of homeless people in the region.
“I want to help the people in my community who are not as lucky as me. Some people do not even have food to eat every night,” Cassidy said.
Cassidy was awarded the 2014 National Pride of Australia Medal for Community Spirit and in 2012 she was the youngest recipient of Council’s Young Citizen of the Year.
Previous residents to appear on the cover of the Yellow and White Pages have been from Oakville, Sackville and Glossodia.
The roll out of the new edition with Cassidy on the front will start this week.
