THERE were plenty of outstanding performances by the Kurrajong Training Squad at the NSW Senior Relay Championships at Homebush last month.
The squad bagged 15 medals and recorded several significant personal bests.
Highlights were the super results in the women’s open walk relay with the girls securing victory by more than three minutes.
Olympian Beki Lee set a blistering pace to establish a substantial lead, with Kirsty Klein next in a very fast time.
The youngest team member, Renee Hardy, more than held her own by recording a personal best split along the way, and Tabitha Porley also walked a very determined last leg to secure the victory.
The under 18 boys high jump team (Jye Hardy, Hayden Perry and Lochlan Brian) also performed brilliantly, placing equal first on countback in what was a nail-biting competition.
All the boys maintained their focus and determination throughout the competition to walk away with the well deserved gold medal.
A special mention goes to Hardy and Lochlan Brian (the youngest team member by three years) who equalled their personal bests.
Other gold medal winners included the under 14 boys 800-metres team (Jack Hamblin and Michael Bettencourt).
Jack ran a very fast personal best split for the first leg in 2.16.45 to set the pace for what was an exciting race.
Jack and Michael were also part of the bronze medal-winning 1500-metre team.
Junior athletes Caitlyn Ferrier, Julia Black and Katelin Ellyard had a busy day, competing in their own age group and also making up teams in older age groups with Caitlyn running fast splits in the open women’s 100-metre and medley relay and her own under 14s 200 metres.
Luke Zaurrini, Daniel Keene, Georgia Messina and Katherine Bettencourt also recorded personal best splits.
