Carnivorous plants will be intriguing visitors to the weekend’s annual Carnivorous Plant Fair at the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens.
The gardens recently won the Blue Mountains Tourism Attraction Award and was a finalist in the NSW tourism attraction category.
In its 10th year, the fair will offer plant sales, information sessions, displays and documentary screenings.
Sessions will be held by the Australasian Carnivorous Plant Society where you can learn about propagation and cultivation tips for your garden.
The team at the Botanic Gardens will be around throughout the day near the displays and at the plant sales to answer any questions.
Visitors can also walk through to the garden’s own ‘‘bog garden’’, a swamp-like environment in which many kinds or carnivorous plants live.
Co-organiser of the fair, Kristen Winder, said the garden’s variety of rare plants attracted collectors as well as being a fun day out for the family.
‘‘It’s fantastic and really interesting for both adults and kids,’’ Ms Winder said.
‘‘Kids get a buzz out of plants that look like they’re going to eat you.
‘‘We also have rare plants meaning collectors love coming here too.’’
■ Plant sales are cash only. The fair is from Saturday, December 6 to Sunday, December 13 at Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens, Bells Line of Road, Mount Tomah. Information sessions will be held on December 6, 7, 13 and 14, 11am-noon. Documentary screenings held daily at 1pm. All entry is free. Details: www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au.
