THE Nepean Area Disabilities Organisation (NADO) celebrated its annual carers’ lunch at Windsor’s Stir Crazy Noodle Bar on Friday.
‘‘NADO had a difficult job: to top last year’s trike ride through Penrith for our Carers Week,’’ a NADO spokeswoman said.
‘‘But gathering by the expressions on our carers’ faces it was certainly achieved.’’
NADO is a charity supporting people with disabilities and their families in the Nepean and surrounding regions.
The day began after a ceremony for the St Marys Carers Support Group.
NADO’s chief executive Denise Heath and local federal and state MPs, Fiona Scott (Lindsay) and Tanya Davies (Mulgoa), spoke at the ceremony.
They thanked the carers for all they were doing and specially acknowledged Helen Gordon, who received a Carers Award at state parliament the previous Monday.
‘‘Once the ceremony was over, the carers were amazed to see a 24-seat stretch pink Hummer waiting to take them to lunch,’’ the NADO spokeswoman said.
‘‘With a glass of bubbly in hand, the journey started from NADO’s St Marys office and continued to Windsor.
‘‘There was certainly a lot of laughter at Stir Crazy Noodle Bar, with some karaoke from our driver singing Elvis songs.’’
The 2013 winner of the Carers Award, Janmaree Martin, said ‘‘We had an amazing day and really appreciate everything you do for us’’.
NADO thanked Employers Mutual for its donation of $1000 towards renting the Hummer; Stir Crazy Noodle Bar for hosting ‘‘a delicious lunch’’, and RWW Legal and Women with Altitude for their support.
‘‘It was great to hear the laughter from everyone with the thrill of being in the Hummer,’’ RWW’s Learne Brischetto said.
‘‘It was wonderful to see them all relaxing and enjoying some time for themselves, which so many of us take for granted.’’ The group leader, Brigitte Krstanoski, was pleased everyone enjoyed the day. ‘‘All that’s left now is, what will we do to top that one next year?’’ she said.
