Are you already trying to think of things to do with the children these school holidays?
The Gazette has put together a list of places to visit and things to do.
■ Explorer Bus: head on up to the Blue Mountains for either the day or a couple of nights and board the hop-on, hop-off red double-decker bus or vintage-style Trolley Tour buses.
They will take you to all the famous sites of the Leura and Katoomba area, giving you access to all the premier attractions of the Blue Mountains.
Blue Mountains Attractions Group president Dave Robertson said there was so much to see and do in the backyard of the Blue Mountains.
Visitors and locals can choose from activities throughout the region that are either indoors or out, many including great seasonal features, special offers and discounts.
■ Featherdale Wildlife Park: with the wildlife park only 26 kilometres away from Richmond CBD, why not visit for the day?
Children of all ages can enjoy furry encounters up close and personal with some of Australia’s native animals.
You can meet Archer the baby koala, watch the dingo pups romp and feed the wallabies that roam free. Families can either refresh with food from the kiosk or bring their own freshly-packed picnic.
■ Waradah Aboriginal Centre: treat your family (two adults, two children) to a one-hour VIP experience at the centre which is right in the heart of Katoomba.
During the experience, learn about the ancient history, art and culture of the Aboriginal people, and then enjoy a thrilling performance by the Waradah Dancers which includes traditional song, dance, didgeridoo and smoking ceremony.
■ Scenic World: if your children love everything adventurous make sure you visit Scenic World for the thrill of a high altitude adventure on the world’s steepest passenger railway.
You can glide between cliff tops on the glass-floored skyway, go down the steepest cableway in the southern hemisphere and wander through a Jurassic rainforest on the 2.4kilometre walkway.
■ Jenolan Caves: has a range of special cave tours for children during the holidays as well as the usual tours of spectacular show caves, adventure tours, night tours and the new Fossils Unearthed tour.
