The countdown is on and teams are fired up ahead of the 2014 Pony Club State Mounted Games Championships to be held in Londonderry.
This is the first year Londonderry Pony Club has hosted the state games, which will see 230 riders from 26 teams from across NSW compete from September 19-21.
Mounted games is considered an extreme sport with teams going head-to-head in 10 different games.
‘‘Mounted games doesn’t just require speed but also the athletic ability of horse and rider to manoeuvre between and around obstacles, pick-up and put down equipment and vault on and off the horse at high speed,’’ Londonderry team manager, Michelle Newham said.
Teams are made up of riders of all ages, including nine-year-old Madeline Nickson who was selected on a state team for the first time.
‘‘Madeline has earned her way on to the squad with plenty of practice and great riding,’’ Ms Newham said.
‘‘This year we have two really strong teams and we’re confident of coming in the placings.’’
The event will also determine selection for teams to represent NSW at the National Mounted Games championships next year.
The event is open to the public and spectators are encouraged to come along and see all the action.
There will also be trade stalls operating across the weekend with equestrian gear, giftware and more.
Londonderry Pony Club is also offering businesses the chance to support the not-for-profit organisation and promote themselves by displaying their banner at the event for the cost of $100.
