The 15-person syndicate that won half of the $70 million Powerball jackpot overnight has been revealed as a group of workmates based in western Sydney.
The colleagues, who have asked to remain anonymous, bought their winning Powerball entry from Bonnyrigg Plaza Newsagency in Sydney's west.
They are now multimillionaires, with $2.4 million each, sharing in a haul of $35.9 million
The group selected their system nine, division one winning numbers using a tried and true method.
"We went around and asked everyone to choose a few numbers to play on our Powerball ticket so it was a mix of our birthdays, house numbers and favourite numbers that won us the prize," a spokesperson for the syndicate told NSW Lotteries.
The winning numbers were 32, 8, 5, 40, 19 and 7 and the Powerball was 12.
Describing the win as "surreal", the syndicate leader said the announcement had not interrupted the group's work day but added that future celebration plans were on the cards.
"We've all been talking about it this morning and we're in shock now but we'll be celebrating together later.
"We have to get back to work."
Plans to spend the money are already taking shape, the spokesperson said, adding that "no one will be out shopping for a Lamborghini today".
"There are mortgages to pay off, retirement plans down the track and a few people have said they'll be donating some of their prize money to charity," the spokesperson said.
The group shared the prize with an individual holding a winning ticket, as yet unclaimed, from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
