A teenager has been taken to hospital following a delicate rescue operation after he fell 80 metres down a rock cliff as he attempted to get into a bush dance party in the Watagans National Park in the Central Coast.
Specialist paramedics were joined by members of police rescue and the Cessnock volunteer rescue association in abseiling down the cliff to be with the 17-year-old youth overnight on Saturday.
Police said the Newcastle teen became disorientated and fell down the escarpment about 10.30pm.
His friends raised the alarm and the rescuers got to him about 4.15am.
A doctor and paramedic were also winched to the scene by a Hunter Westpac rescue helicopter.
Trees were lopped before a delicate winch rescue operation began just after 10am on Sunday.
The teen was flown to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
