RESIDENTS of Hale Crescent at South Windsor were woken in the early hours of Sunday morning to a scene of “flashing red and blue lights and sirens going crazy” when a 21-year-old man was “viciously” bashed in his home while he slept.
About 1.15am on May 13, the man and his 21-year-old partner were asleep in their bedroom when three men allegedly broke into the home and assaulted the man with a hammer and metal bar.
The three men, whose faces were covered then fled the address, leaving the woman and a 63-year-old man who was asleep at the house in another bedroom unharmed.
Windsor Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics responded and the victim was taken to Westmead Hospital with a susp-ected fractured skull.
Detective Acting Inspector Trent Atkins from Windsor Police said the man is “continuing to receive treatment in hospital and thankfully he is in a stable condition”.
When the Gazette spoke to a resident, who asked not to be named, in the street on Monday, she said she was in shock that this sort of thing could happen in the Hawkesbury.
“You just don’t think that something like this would happen at all, let alone in your own street or suburb,” she said.
“It’s just horrible to think that this poor man was viciously attacked in his own home and who knows what for. I just hope he’s OK and whether he’s in the wrong or not no-one deserves this to happen to them”.
Police have spoken to several witnesses who described seeing a dark-coloured sedan leaving the area at the time of the attack but said they were now appealing for any more witnesses or anyone who might have information to come forward.
“There is the strong likelihood that there are people in community who have knowledge of the identity of the attackers and we urge for this information to be passed onto Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Hawk-esbury detectives on 4587 4080,” Acting Det. Insp. Atkins said.
There have been several rumours circulating that the attack may be bikie or drug related however police would not confirm this. They said they were still in the early stages of the investigation and that detectives were “focusing on identifying wit-nesses and reviewing the results of the crime scene examinations”.
