One of Queensland's most senior police officers has resigned after his lewd and offensive comments about women were exposed during a public inquiry into the state's sexist police culture.
Deputy Commissioner Paul Taylor's misogynistic comments referring to "vagina whisperer'' were revealed at the Commission of Inquiry into Queensland Police Services' Responses to Domestic and Family Violence on Thursday.
It was one of two embarrassing and offensive public comments revealed as the commission examined the troubling culture of the Queensland Police Service.
The second officer involved has been named in media reports as Chief Superintendent Ray Rohweder.
In a statement issued on Friday, Mr Taylor brought an immediate end to his 45-year law enforcement career.
"I am devastated about the impact this has had on the reputation of the service, because it does not reflect my values, nor those of the organisation," he said.
"It was never my intention to offend anyone, and I am deeply apologetic for the harm it has caused. I was remorseful immediately after the incident, and the commissioner addressed the matter with me soon after."
Mr Taylor said the organisation had undergone an incredible amount of change in recent years in a bid to address the culture of the QPS.
"The public should have confidence that this is a great organisation, with terrific people who care so much about the community across the vast state," Mr Taylor said.
"I have given my heart and soul to the QPS and I will forever be proud of what I have achieved in my career."
He also thanked colleagues for their ongoing support.
"I am extremely grateful to have worked with you all, and I know you will continue to do a fantastic job keeping Queenslanders safe."
His resignation comes after Commissioner Katarina Carroll was grilled at the inquiry and conceded Mr Taylor's comments were unacceptable.
The police service said it would not be making any comments about Chief Superintendent Rohweder.
"The member has addressed the evidence from the Commission Of Inquiry internally with fellow QPS members. He does not wish to make any further comment about the matter," it said it a statement.
