Midnight Oil front man Peter Garrett was spotted by a keen fan on the streets of Lyon, France. The problem? The fan was mid-performance.
In a video shared by the band, Mr Garrett can be seen trying to drop some loose change the street performer's way. With his trademark bald head hidden by a hat and without his signature dance moves on show no one else in the street appeared to have identified him.
The accordion playing fan quickly turned his thankful nod into a look of complete disbelief, stopping the performance to ask if it was really Garrett. Tightly gripping Garrett's hand, the man recounted Midnight Oil memories, including a concert he attended at 14, but he needed to inform a passer-by of who it was.
"We've got to keep going," Mr Garrett replied to the fan's request to join the performance. He said he would be back in the area the next day. Is a pending duet in the works?
The fan's guitar playing band mate remained unfazed by the rock legend in his presence, holding the coble stoned stage for the equally nonchalant audience.
Midnight Oil wrapped up the European leg of their 'Resist' tour in July, after playing at iconic venues like London's Roundhouse and the famous Olympia in Paris. Midnight Oil remains popular in France, with their final album 'Resist' entering the Top 100 charts at release. The album was also popular across the Swiss border, peaking at number eight.
Mr Garrett is set to return to Australia to kick off the Midnight Oil's final shows across Australia and New Zealand, starting with Broken Hill on August 18. Buskers Down Under should keep their eyes peeled.
