Liberal Councillor Patrick Conolly will lead Hawkesbury City as mayor for the next two years, after being re-elected to the position for the new term of council.
Cr Conolly was elected as the mayor at the ordinary meeting of the council, Tuesday, January 11, the first of the term following the 2021 NSW Local Government Election.
He was elected unopposed and will hold the position from January 2022 to January 2024.
In taking to the mayoral seat in the chamber, Cr Conolly congratulated all councillors on their elections and thanked them for their support.
He said he was humbled and that he appreciates the faith shown in him to be re-elected to, and unopposed for, the position.
"My priority will be to continue to make council an organisation that is focussed on its customers, the ratepayers and residents of Hawkesbury City Council," he said.
"I've always believed that council, first and foremost, is a service provider.
"Our job is to make sure that we are delivering the services that people want and that we are delivering them to a good quality, and that we are making the Hawkesbury a better place to live and work."
The role of deputy mayor was also determined during the meeting.
Labor Cr Barry Calvert and Independent Cr Nathan Zamprogno were the nominees for the role.
Cr Calvert won the open vote nine to two.
Aside from his own vote, those in favour of Cr Calvert were councillors Sarah Richards, Amanda Kotlash, Patrick Conolly, Mary Lyons-Buckett, Paul Veigel, Jill Reardon, Danielle Wheeler and Les Sheather.
In favour of Cr Zamprogno was councillor Shane Djuric.
Councillor Eddie Dogramaci abstained from voting.
