The Big Events
Group racing is in full swing in NSW this month, starting tonight with the running of the Group 2 Black Top final at The Gardens in Newcastle.
Last Wednesday feature racing returned to Wentworth Park with heats of the time-honoured Sydney Cup for our best stayers, and tomorrow night Wenty hosts the heats of the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic and the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal, with all those finals set for October 16.
Still to come during October we have the heats and final of the Goulburn Cup, and the heats and final of the Lismore Cup.
Greyhound Speedos on Show
When GRNSW built the new track at Grafton, the Isolynx tracking and timing system was also installed.
The Isolynx system's cameras robotically track each individual greyhound's path during the course of a race, as well as the speed each greyhound travels and the times it runs through each section of the race.
The Isolynx system provides great information for punters and viewers, and also provides us with greyhound health and welfare benefits, such as monitoring the dog's heart and stress levels.
As of last weekend the Isolnyx system is now also working on both the Richmond straight and circle track, and it certainly adds to the viewing experience.
The 324m straight track record was broken during the day on Monday at Richmond in an exciting three-way finish, and it was fascinating to watch the fluctuations in the speeds of three dogs around the 72kph mark, as they battled out the finish.
Work to Commence at Muswellbrook
Work will begin next week at the Muswellbrook track as they prepare to host some TAB racing next year.
First on the agenda will be work on a new track surface, rail and lure.
Work is expected to take around three months with racing to return early in 2022.
Lord Mighty
Jodie Lord has been one of our leading trainers in NSW for some time, and she celebrated the return of racing to Wentworth Park last week with some remarkable performances.
On the first night back at Headquarters Jodie had seven runners engaged and won five of the nine races on the program.
Then last Saturday Jodie had just the one runner, the exciting young Bandit Ned who not only added to his trainer's amazing run, but continued to build a reputation, winning his fifth race in succession, and the 13th of his 16-race career.
I have a feeling Bandit Ned is a dog set to feature prominently in the upcoming feature races in NSW, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was interest in Ned from the Phoenix slot holders.
