The Nepean Blood Donor Centre has extended its opening hours to give potential donors even more opportunities to donate their blood and plasma.
Located at Unit 9, 69 York Street, Jamisontown (access via Batt Street), its new hours are 8am to 7pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, 8am to 8pm Wednesday to Fridays, 7.30am to 3pm on Saturdays and 8am to 3pm on Sundays.
Australian Red Cross Lifeblood spokesperson Ronny Maroun said that the extended hours would translate to more than 200 extra donors giving blood and plasma each week.
"The donor centre is inviting locals who don't currently donate, or haven't for some time, to book in to donate during the extended hours and meet the team," he said.
"One in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime, yet only one in 30 currently donates, so there's never been a better time to roll up your sleeves and give the gift of life."
The centre has more than 790 appointments that need to be filled over the next three weeks, including around 40 each day.
Over the last month a third of donors cancelled their donation booking at the last minute, which meant the service did not have time to organise for another donor to take their place.
If donors need to cancel or reschedule they are urged to do so as early as possible.
