Anzac services return, Covid-19 registration required

Dawn services have been designated ticketed events and those attending will have to register.

The state government is allowing 10,000 people to participate in the Sydney CBD march and a maximum of 5000 people at other marches or services throughout Sydney, but the number of people attending must not exceed one person per two square metres of space.

"The nominated organiser of an outdoor Anzac Day march or service must develop and comply with a COVID-19 Safety Plan required for outdoor protests," the RSL website says.

"Each person participating in an outdoor Anzac Day march or service must provide their name, telephone number of email address to the nominated organiser and take reasonably practicable steps to comply with the COVID-19 Safety Plan developed by the nominated organiser."

Windsor RSL Sub-Branch Secretary Leon Walker said the sub-branch would be conducting a dawn service in McQuade Park, Windsor, at 5.50am

"It's an invitation event, and we will be having a controlled area.

"Only invited guests and participants will be inside the boundary," Mr Walker said.

"Outside the boundary, that will be under police control. We can't stop anybody coming to the park but they must abide by Covid rules."

Richmond RSL Sub-branch will commemorate Anzac Day with a Dawn Service at the Richmond War Memorial, Richmond Park, from 5am.

The Dawn Service will include a Catafalque Party, keynote addresses and the laying of wreaths.

Limited covered seating will be available for local dignitaries, veterans and older family members (who should arrive no later than 4.40am).

Community members are welcome to participate in the ceremony, ensuring that they follow social distancing and other COVID-19 related restrictions.

Ron Gray, Richmond RSL Sub-branch president, said the 2021 service would mean a lot to the community.

"We enjoy ourselves and our company and remember all our mates who are still alive and some who have passed away," Mr Gray said.

"You hear a lot of stories, when [former soldiers] were [at war], who they were with, and it's fantastic to hear these people do this and laugh. That's part of it."
