It was great turn out at Hawkesbury Race Club on Staurday, March 6 as punters, owners and sponsors came down to watch the 2021 Polytrack Provincial heat.
The day's solid weather and a good track made for some great racing as the club hosted its first big event of 2021.
Race one saw a good start for Hawkesbury horses with Noel Mayfield-Smith's Ausbred Cooee placing third.
Another Hawkesbury trained horse, James Cummings' Beyliks, backed that up by running second in race three.
Race four saw Cummings snag another place finish on the day, again running in a close second place with Jeronimos, while Mayfield-Smith's Invictus Felix came in third.
Hawkesbury's Terry Croft ran in his first place of the day coming in third with Just A Brother in race six.
Edward Cummings managed to get a place in race seven with Prompt Prodigy as the three-year-old colt ran second by half a length.
In the days main race, there were four Hawkesbury trained horses running for a place in the Provincial Championship Final at Randwick.
The favourites for the 1400m race were Kris Lee's three-year-old filly Sequina and Gwenda Maxwell's 5-year-old mare Gemmahra.
In what was a close finish, Gemmahra, ridden by Winona Costin, managed to pip two of Hawkesbury trainer Claire Lever's four-year-old mare's by half a length taking home the top spot.
Lever's Diva Bella and Grace Bay came in second and third, booking their spots in the final at Randwick on April 10.
Hawkesbury Race Club's next major event will be the HAwkesbury Cup Day on May 1.
The stand alone race day holds an outstanding race card highlighted by the $200,000 Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup, Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas, and Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown, as well as Clarendon Stakes (previously known as the Claret) for two-year-olds.
