A 76-year-old woman who drove her car into the Hawkesbury River was rescued by a boating pair on the weekend.
Around 1pm on Saturday, February 20, the woman, who was driving a white Toyota Corolla in an easterly direction along Singleton Road, Wisemans Ferry, left the roadway in her vehicle which crashed into the river.
The driver was able to extract herself from the drivers seat and was picked-up by a father and son who had heard the crash and steered their boat to the floating car.
On getting the driver onto the transom of the vessel, the car sunk approximately 10 metres from the river bank in deep water, Hawkesbury police said.
The driver was returned to shore on the Gunderman side of the river where Police and Ambulance attended along with an Toll Air Ambulance.
After being brought ashore, the woman was treated for an obvious injury to her right leg and other injury assessment including shock. She was then flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
On Saturday evening, Police were establishing why the vehicle left the roadway.
