Man charged after finding about 2kgs of ice on Spirit of Tasmania

Police estimate the drugs have a street value of around $2 million.

Detective Acting Inspector Nathan Johnston said the Western and Northern Drug Investigation Services and the dog handler unit conducted a routine joint operation at the Spirit of Tasmania terminal targeting the trafficking of illegal substances.

He said approximately 2kgs of the highly addictive drug ICE was located in a vehicle entering the state at the terminal in Devonport.

A 29-year-old Melbourne man was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and appeared in the Devonport Magistrates Court on Sunday.

"The seizure of $2 million worth of ice yesterday sends a strong message to criminals involved in bringing drugs into our state," Detective Acting Inspector Nathan Johnston said.
