The Hawkesbury Show is set to make a return in 2021 as the NSW Government announces COVID safe guidelines that will allow attendees at country shows.
From January, 2021, the new restrictions will see shows go ahead with up to 5,000 people able to attend at any given time.
President of Hawkesbury District Agricultural Association, Ross Matheson, said that they are on track to hold next year's Annual Hawkesbury Show.
"There will be some restrictions we will have to follow but we're intending intending on it being staged," he said.
"We're hoping that the recent announcement by the NSW Government on permitted attendance numbers at Agricultural shows will be increased a bit especially for a show of our size.
"There will obviously be changes to previous years, as certain restrictions will be enforced on us like complying with social distancing rules and ticketing which will allow contact tracing but we are intending to stage a similar show to what we've had before."
Hawkesbury MP Robyn Preston said the Hawkesbury Show is a proud local tradition that the community looks forward to every year and the green light to bring this cherished event back is great news.
"Much of our region is in drought recovery for the first time in years so by holding the show once again our farmers will have the opportunity to showcase everything from the amazing food and fibre they grow to their prize winning bulls or family jam recipe," she said.
"The show is one of the most important social events on our calendar and draws crowds from across the region, giving local businesses exposure and keeping money flowing through our town and I have no doubt it will give our town a much needed boost.
"The NSW Government will be working closely with organisers and industry associations to ensure COVID safe measures are in place for each Show."
Deputy Premier John Barilaro said country shows were the beating heart of regional communities and the opportunity to visit a show was one of the highlights of living in the bush.
"Shows boost business and community spirit and it is important that people can enjoy these events safely and responsibly," he said.
"We've done the hard work and deserve to enjoy ourselves.
"However, I must stress that it will be essential for both organisers, and attendees, to follow guidelines as the last thing we want is outbreaks in regional towns."
Show organisers will have to complete a COVID Safe Event Plan.
They will have to ensure social distancing at venues, controlled access at entry points to minimise crowding and a limit to the number of attendees depending on venue size with one person per 4 square metres.
Organisers are encouraged to use the Service NSW COVID Safe QR codes to enable safe management of crowd numbers and contact tracing.
The NSW Government is working with the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW to explore options for the 2021 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Guidelines and checklists for country shows will be available online at www.nsw.gov.au/COVID-19.
