Liberal Councillor Patrick Conolly will lead Hawkesbury city as mayor for the remainder of the current council term.
Cr Conolly was elected to replace Councillor Barry Calvert at last night's ordinary meeting of the council.
He was elected via open vote, seven to five, against Independent Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett.
Aside from his own vote, those in favour of Cr Conolly were councillors Sarah Richards, Nathan Zamprogno, Tiffany Tree, John Ross, Amanda Kotlash and Barry Calvert.
In favour of Cr Lyons-Buckett were councillors Paul Rasmussen, Emma-Jane Garrow, Peter Reynolds and Danielle Wheeler.
In taking to the mayoral seat in the chamber, Cr Conolly thanked councillors, the majority of whom were linked in via online meeting platform Zoom, for their support.
He said that despite there only being 12 months of the council term left, there were still a number of important priorities to see through, including the delivery of an LEP.
"We've got not a lot of time and my ambition will be to work with the whole council like ratepayers expect us to and try and get this done in the time we've got left," he said.
The role of deputy mayor was also determined during the meeting.
Again Cr Lyons-Buckett stood, along with Cr Calvert. Cr Reynolds withdrew his nomination.
At the vote, each councillor received a count of six. To break the tie, their names were placed in a barrel.
Cr Lyons-Buckett's name was drawn, thus earning her the deputy role.
The next local government election is scheduled for September 4, 2021.
