A new Montessori childcare centre - the first in the Hawkesbury - is opening in Oakville before the end of the month.
Oakville Montessori Early Learning Centre received its service approval three weeks ago and centre manager Gisele Georges said she had already had "an influx" of parents contacting the business for a tour.
Ms Georges said one of the principles of Montessori teaching was helping children figure out how to do things themselves.
"Montessori is an educational-based program where children get to pick their materials off the shelves and every material has an objective that teaches them a different concept, for example one would teach them about colours and one would teach them about sizes. A lot of of the materials would help them build self-confidence," Ms Georges told the Gazette.
"Maria Montessori [who developed the Montessori method] always said, 'Don't tell me how to do it, show me how to do it. If you tell me, I will watch your lips, if you show me, I will watch your hands and I will do it myself'."
Ms Georges said the Montessori method was for "pretty much everyone", though it was developed originally for children with autism.
"A lot of our rooms have very neutral colours, it's very calming for the children, and our centre isn't as loud as your mainstream childcare," she said.
Ms Georges opened the school at Oakville so local parents didn't have to send their children farther afield to gain the Montessori experience, like she did with her daughter.
Her daughter, who uses cochlears, used to have to travel to The Hills district for Montessori childcare.
Oakville Montessori takes children aged six weeks to six years, and has the capacity for 101 enrolments.
"We operate from 7am until 6pm and we provide all meals - breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late-afternoon tea. We also provide nappies and wipes, and as part of the enrolment we're offering a hat, a bag of sheets, as well as a shirt for the older children," Ms Georges said.
The centre opens September 21. Enrol by the end of the year and your enrolment fee will be waived. Go to oakvillemontessori.com.au, or follow Oakville Montessori on Facebook and Instagram.
