Pink Finss fundraiser marks 10 years of helping Hawkesbury women with cancer and their families

But due to COVID restrictions, the ladies at Pink Finss are asking the community to back them in a different way - by supporting founder Jodie Amor on her quest to run 10 kilometres each day for 10 days.

The Race Day is the charity's biggest annual fundraiser and, in recognition of the location of the yearly event, Ms Amor kicked-off her first 10 kilometres at Hawkesbury Race Club in a bid to raise money for the charity and awareness about cancer and how it affects Hawkesbury women and their families.

The 10-kilometres for 10 days challenge will challenge Ms Amor - a keen runner - and highlight how Pink Finss has helped hundreds of women and local families over the last decade.

"We wanted to do something that reminded everyone of what we should have been doing on this day which is celebrating together and having fun at the races but despite that we are here on course doing our bit to raise awareness and have a bit of fun," Ms Amor said.

Event organisers are urging people who usually come to the annual Race Day to jump on board and sponsor Ms Amor this year instead.

"Why not put a little bit of that money that you would usually spend on your race day ticket, your outfit, your fascinator, your raffle tickets into sponsoring Jodie to show your continued support," said events manager Kym Burton.

"And if you haven't been able to make it to race day before, sponsoring this challenge gives you the opportunity to be involved.

"We know times are tough for everyone so this is the perfect way to donate as little or as much as you like and know you are making a real difference."

Ms Amor said since COVID-19 hit in March, Pink Finss had received requests for help from 18 Hawkesbury ladies diagnosed with all different cancer types, who were needing to "feel the love and support of this community around them" more than ever.

"By setting myself this challenge I am hoping to raise awareness of the Pink Finss because we want to help as many people as we can," Ms Amor said.

"It's also going to be a time for me to reflect on the last 10 years, the hundreds of brave women we have helped through their diagnosis.

"Running 10k's a day for 10 days is not going to be easy but it is nothing compared to the battles these women and their families are facing on a daily basis.".

Hawkesbury Race Club has kicked-off the fundraising campaign by donating $1,000 as a show of support for the Pink Finss.
