Construction of a new Rural Fire Brigade Station for Freemans Reach began this week, and the community can expect the station to be complete at the end of March next year, Hawkesbury City Council said.
The Freemans Reach brigade received a NSW State Government grant of $1,334,023 to put towards building the new station, under the Rural Fire Fighting Fund.
Hawkesbury Mayor, Councillor Barry Calvert, commended the brigade for the effort they put into their grant application and for being successful.
"Anything to do with helping the Hawkesbury Rural Fire Service and their Brigades, so that they can help our local community in times of need, should be a priority," he said.
"I know everyone involved is very excited to see this project get off the ground and I look forward to updating you all on the progress along the way."
During construction of the new building, the public amenities and tennis courts will still be accessible to the general public. There will be reduced car parking directly adjacent the building site.
