It was a great day of rugby rivalry at Western Sydney University Richmond on Saturday, August 8 as Hawkesbury Ag College (HAC) hosted Hawkesbury Valley.
There was great support from the local community who came down to watch the two clubs go head-to-head in some brilliant games of rugby.
Third Grade kicked off the day with Valley jumping out to an early lead, as Zac Burns and Aaron Hidalgo each crossed for a try.
HAC hit back with a breakaway try from Harley Rasho, but that wasn't enough to spur a comeback as Valley ran away with it.
Matthew Pond and Jason deJoux both scored, leading Valley to a 28-7 win.
Colts (Under 21's) was up next. Valley's Bailey Thompson opened the scoring with a try but he was matched by HAC's Siafolau Siafolau who also crossed.
Valley responded with Thompson crossing for two more tries, before HAC fought back and scored through prop Cassem Siafolau.
A stunning try, late in the match, from Valley's Ryan Seale capped of their win, 28-14.
Second Grade followed, in what was a brilliant match up. Once again Valley scored first, through Dean Hollis.
A yellow card from Valley opened the gate for HAC who crossed for three unanswered tries. Jack Bramwell, Brayden Wheeler and Fine Tino all scored, giving HAC a 17-7 lead.
Valley looked dangerous late in the match with Ethan Christian scoring a try, but a penalty from HAC's Paul Hewett sealed the win, 20-14.
The main event of the day, First Grade, did not disappoint as the match went down to the final minutes.
HAC jumped out to a 10-0 lead early with a try from Daniel Chedded and a penalty goal from Jonathan Carlin.
Valley took the lead with tries from Tim Wilson, Jayson Troy and Steven Selff, and a penalty from Ryan Fitzpatrick, making it 22-10.
A double from Luke Sproats and another penalty to Carlin saw HAC back in front, 25-22.
Despite a red card against Valley and another penalty goal from HAC, the visiting team looked like they had stole the match after a try from Matthew Neal, 29-28.
But in what was a thrilling end, HAC fought their way back down the field and managed to cross the line for one last try through Daniel Chedded, snatching the win, 35-29.
HAC are away next Saturday, August 15 against Sydney Harlequins at Waterloo Oval.
Valley will play at home, at McQuade Park, against Old Ignatians, with Third Grade kicking off at 11:40am.
