Local athletics club has been announced as finalists for Community Club of the Year at the 2020 NSW Community Sports Awards.
Hawkesbury City Little Athletics (HCLA) were nominated for the award by Little Athletics NSW for the club's excellent contribution to the sport.
HCLA Secretary Rebecca Broughton said that everyone in the club is very excited about the announcement.
"The kids are absolutely thrilled to have their club recognised," she said.
"Our volunteers and parents have been working hard to boost our profile in the community.
"We are proud and thankful of the recognistion from not only Little Athletics who nominated us but also from Sport NSW who selected us as finalists.
Rebecca said that this hasn't just been work from the past year but rather many years in the making at HCLA.
"It's been many years of working to encourage local families to join," she said. "We have just been going from strength to strength.
"This past 2019/20 season we saw an additional 100 athletes join our club and many more volunteers and committee members.
"We have been growing very quickly ... we even went to the state relays for the first time this past season."
Rebecca said that the club is proud to be a part of Little Athletics.
"We aim to provide family, fun and fitness for everyone that is involved," she said.
"We always want it to be fun for the kids and for them to have the opportunity to be active while having a good time.
"It's great to see a Hawkesbury sports club recognised at a state level."
HCLA are competing with the Bulli Surf Life Saving Club, the Macksville Touch Association and Thornleigh Baseball Club for Community Club of the Year.
The winners of the 2020 NSW Community Sports Awards will be revealed later this year, however, due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, details of the event are yet to be confirmed.
Registrations for the 2020/21 season at Hawkesbury City Little Athletics open on August 15 with the season currently set to start on September 15.
