Richmond Good Food Market and it's various stalls had an interesting time during the COVID-19 lockdown, as like most businesses it has had to make large changes to it's operations.
Coordinator of the market Daniel McTackett said that it has been an interesting time period for everyone involved.
"I bought the market at the beginning of the year and it has been a big learning curve for me," he said.
"During the lockdown we had only food stalls open ... usually it is fifty/fifty between food and artisan stalls.
"There was so many people going into isolation, or not coming out very much, if at all. But everyone decided to keep going and it was the best decision we made."
Enniskillen Orchard's David Maguire - who has been at the market since day one and relies on its business - continued operating during lockdown.
"We were only able to supply food products. We did quite well during the lockdown as people wanted fresh food," said John.
"I supply some of my own fruit along with fruit that I buy directly from other farms, so I always have good quality stock at the market.
"The market has come back full-time now and it has been going quite well."
Richmond Good Food Market have seen a good response from the community in following social distancing measures and other COVID-19 restrictions.
"Thankfully everyone understands what they have to do," said Daniel. "It makes it all a little easier for us to manage, and safer for everyone."
John agrees that people who have been attending Richmond for the market have been following the restrictions well.
"Richmond is fortunate to have such a well run market," he said. "Everyone is doing the best that they can. I believe people decided that it is better to do their shopping in an open space if they can."
Daniel said that he has received some really good feedback about the amount of business the stalls are doing.
"People have really gotten on the shop small bandwagon and have been supporting local communities," said Daniel.
"One of the benefits of the lockdown is that it allowed people to reflect on their business ideas and their products. They have come back with these fresh and new ideas or stock which has been great."
Daniel thanks the support of the Hawkesbury community who continued to shop at the Richmond Good Food Market.
"We are very thankful to the people of the Hawkesbury," he said. "Without them we wouldn't be trading. It comes down to the community."
John agreed and said the market is a great community get together.
"We are filling an important role in Richmond," he said.
Richmond Good Food Market is open at Richmond Oval on Saturday's from 8am to 1pm.
